VISION

“To Promote and Propagate the Knowledge of Zoology to the New Generation of Students.”

MISSION

Through the proper interpretation and insight into the literature survey, create an awareness of life as a whole; there by enabling the students to shape their lives, to do meaningful research and also useful to serve the society at large. Device different methods to make the students realize the knowledge of Zoology and its usage.

Department was established in 1956 by than Prof. S.G Bellary. The Department is renowned for its academic excellence, discipline with overall development of the students. It not only enhances skills in students, it even provides knowledge in the scientific study of Cytology, Molecular cell biology, genetics, evolution, anatomy, physiology, ethology, ecology, economic zoology, bioinformatics and bioinstrumentation. Hosts a rich museum with 340 preserved rare specimens, intact skeletons of frog, Rabbit, pigeon and Human. There are several corals and stuffed animals.

The department flourished under the stalwart Prof. S.G. Bellary with the support and encouragement from the management and his colleagues such as Prof.K.K.Reddy (1969- 2000 ), Prof .K.Vasanth Rao. (1972- 2001), Sri. C. Satyanarayana, Reader (1973-2009) He developed the required infrastructure in the department and later on the department became full-fledged with the entry of Sri. Shanu Kumar (1980), Smt. G.Nalini Bai (1989-2003) and Dr Malkanna (1991) there by enabled the department to run the degree classes.

Zoology was introduced initially into the curriculum both as a major and minor subject. Now it is one among the two optional of the UG course. During the academic year 2020 NEP has been introduced. According to the NEP Semester wise programme students can opt Zoology along with-

1. Microbiology
2. Botany
3. Chemistry &
4. Biotechnology

According to the SEP 2023-24. Zoology is one of the optional subjects along with the following optional subjects.

1. Botany and chemistry ( i.e., C.B.Z Combination )

2. Microbiology and Chemistry ( i.e., C.Z.MB Combination)

3. Biotechnology and Chemistry ( i.e., C.Z. Biotech Combination)

The library of the Dept. of Zoology is equipped with more than 97 books. Department of Zoology is supported by college library with more than 1431 books related to Zoology. Zoology department has well equipped labs with store room and an excellent museum of Zoology specimens, is a matter of pride.

Welcome to the Department of Zoology, which is potential enough in having very well-equipped laboratories and classrooms and highly qualified faculty members. Faculty members are having scientific bent of mind and are involved in energizing both theory and practical’s along with research activities. We are organizing field visits, Study tours, Workshops, Hands on training programs, Internships, Add on courses, Guest lecture, Special Lectures etc.

The slow learners will be identified and special mentors will be provided for overall development of each and every student. We do invite industrialists for the required training and students will be trained for suitable industrial jobs. Some of Our faculty members are the members of Editorial Board for several publications and publishing research papers in peer reviewed journals. Department is importing the ICT based knowledge in Life Science and providing experts in major branches of Zoology.

Criteria for Admission:

Admission to UG Programme is offered on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying examination (10+2) followed by document verification at the time of final admission.
