VISSION
To impart state-of-the art-knowledge of Physics to create competency research skills.
MISSION
The physics department is committed to impart quality education both in theoretical as well as experimental physics with special emphasis on ‘learning by doing’ for socio-economic growth.
About Department of Physics
Learning Physics helps us to understand how the world around us works. The knowledge of Physics is the very basis for most modern technology and studying Physics strengthens quantitative reasoning and problem-solving skills that are valuable in areas beyond Physics. Majoring in Physics provides the graduate student the excellent career platform to train the mind in all branches of engineering and information/computer science disciplines. It is also useful to pursue interdisciplinary programs in life sciences, earth sciences, atmospheric sciences and even in economics public policy and journalism. All the College and corporate recruiters recognize the value of analytical brains developed through Physics.
The Post Graduate Department of Physics started in the year 2007, offers postgraduate leading to the Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree. Experienced faculty of the Department is devoted to research in their respective areas of specialization. Research and teaching are given equal importance by the faculty. Extra care is taken to pay individual attention to the students in their laboratory work and tutorial sessions. Project work and problem sessions are encouraged to develop innovative and analytical approach to physics learning. Topical seminars by scientists of nearby research institutes are arranged to create research-awareness amongst students. Some scientists are also invited for teaching, examination and curricular development.
Facilities
- Laboratory
M.Sc. laboratories are well equipped to carry out experiment in Electronics, Solid State Electronics, Solid State Physics, Nuclear Physics, Laser Physics and Astronomy and Space Physics
Nuclear physics students are encouraged to examine nuclear decay scheme using alpha, beta and gamma ray spectroscopy. 1 K multichannel analyzer, scintillation and gas filled detectors, Germanium detector and Coincidence Units are some of the major facilities for them
